What does FOLAN mean or stand for ?

FOLAN is an experimental and conceptual networked airborne Local Area Network.This project is documented by the FAA and its main task was to gauge the safety and security of such a system in a commercial aircraft.Since there are many handheld devices that could connect to this network,its position becomes a security threat if it got into the wrong hands.
